Film Poster Montage

I've decided to go for a minimalist/simplistic look for my horror film poster as i believe that is the best method to create suspense and increase the diversity of the audiences interpretation of the details too the film.

History of a Horror Character - Pyramid Head

Pyramid head is a character seen in both of the released Silent hill films (Silent Hill and Silent Hill - Revelations), he/she is also seen in the Silent Hill video games. The concept for Pyramid head devised for the Silent Hill franchise was created by Masahiro Ito (the designer of the monsters seen in Silent Hill), he wanted a 'monster with a hidden face' but became very unhappy with the designs which revolved around 'humans with masks covering their faces' from this he then began drawing idea's which were based on a monster with a pyramid head - according to Ito the pyramid's sharp acute angle symbolizes pain and suffering. Ito also noted that throughout the whole of the Silent Hill franchise, Pyramid Head is the only monster to appear masculine and muscly. Pyramid head simply resembles a tall pale muscular man covered with a white, blood soaked robe, reminiscent of a butchers apron/clothing. He is silent, but occasionally grunts and groans as if in pain. In the film Silent Hill, Christopher Gans the director of the film stated "The big change in Red Pyramid for me was not his head as much as his body. In the game he has a very deformed body almost a hunchback. Instead we decided to make him a tall, powerful character a little like the Warrior God in Stargate that Patrick Tatopoulos created. Why? Because for me there is a little of Anibus [sic], the Egyptian God of Death in the Red Pyramid." he said this in comparison to the Pyramid Head which is seen in the video games. As the Silent Hill series is based on symbolism and psychology, we have to look at the main character's of each product in which Pyramid Head is involved in too gain an accurate representation of what he is. For example in the video game Silent Hill 2 the main character is James Sunderland, and the version of Silent Hill he explores is influenced by himself as a part of his psyche - many of the monsters that are found in the town symbolize his wish for punishment, guilt, or sexual repression during his wife's three-year-long illness. The monsters cease to exist after James comes to terms with the fact that he killed his wife Mary, partially to end her suffering and partially out of resentment and frustration. In this video game Pyramid Head appears as an executioner of Maria, an illusion created by the town to symbolize James's wife Mary, James must then fight Pyramid Head to personally overcome the guilt he feels about the murder of his wife.

Risk Assessment

We will be doing most of our filming on Gorleston Beach and at my house. Gorleston Beach. As we are filming on both the beach and on the pier the risks are as follows; Possibility of falling into sea if we get too close to the edge, if the waves come in too strongly we could lose/damage some of our equipment, risk of walking on glass or something sharp on the beach, if the weather is bad we could slip over on the pier and as the ground is rough this will hurt. My House. Some of the shots we have planned will involve knives so we must take precautions in using them, one shot involves the usage of the basement which requires us to climb down a ladder and use a trap door the risks involved with this would be the possibility of the ladder into the basement, getting trapped in the basement and getting our fingers or any other body part trapped in the door.

Initial Film Idea

The idea that we have decided to go for, for our horror trailer is as follows. We've decided to center our film on somebody becoming possessed due to the possession and obsession (the title of our film) of an ancient piece of jewellery. Of course at first we have no idea that the item of jewellery has magical properties which cause the owner to become possessed. The plot of the film begins as a group of students go for a trip to the beach, there one of the students finds this pendent and becomes strangely obsessed with it, constantly having their attention fixed to it and they increasingly become more protective over it. We then have scenes at a house which show the owner of the pendent showing more and more demonic like properties i.e discoloration of skin and a strange severe attachment to the pendent which involves the student gripping the pendent so tightly that they end up shedding blood from it. When the other students finally realize that something isn't quite right it is already too late and an unsettling series of events take place that show's the true change and possession at its prime.
